Our hearts 💜are with you. It’s time to innovate and restore.
Thousands of our readers live in the neighborhoods in Southern California where fires are still raging. We want to recognize and express our deep empathy and sadness for the terror and grief Angelenos are experiencing as they witness the unimaginable torching of their homes, schools, businesses, and churches. Our hearts and prayers go out to all impacted by this burning inferno of Biblical proportions, especially to the kids who have been either directly affected or have friends and relatives who have lost so much. These experiences will forever be etched in their psyches for the rest of their precious lives.

We will continue to pray and encourage others to do so that these fires will soon be fully extinguished and fears for further damage and death will finally subside. We are with you all and are so very sorry that this is all happening in your communities.
News Break: President Trump will arrive in Los Angeles today to inspect the damage caused by the wildfires. The exact time of his arrival and itinerary in California have not been specified. California Governor Gavin Newsom hasn't spoken to the President since the President’s previous term in 2019, and he intends to be at the airport to welcome the Bogeyman. Our federal government owns 57% of California's forest land, compared to 3% owned by the State, so both have big assets on the table.
We Californians owe it to our children to deeply contemplate all that has transpired and identify and fix the breaks in the system that unnecessarily fostered this level of destruction. We must join together and put all our energy into making the changes and applying the forest and water management innovations and strategies at our disposal to prevent this level of destruction from ever happening again. This effort will take the help of entrepreneurs and their companies in conjunction with state and local assistance.
AI-powered drones can provide real-time aerial views of fire scenes in hard-to-reach areas to help commanders map and monitor wildfire progression.

“Everything around you that you call life was made up of people who were no smarter than you. You don’t have to accept things just because they are the way they are. You can change it, you can influence it, you can make it better, and build your own things that other people can use." —Steve Jobs, Apple cofounder
So far, over 50,000 acres (75 square miles—2.5 times the size of Manhattan) have been burned, and over 200,000 people have been forced to evacuate. The tragic reality is that the wildfires should not have had such a catastrophic effect. If we do not believe this, then there is only one option for Angelenos, and that is a mass exodus from the region—which we are sure many are considering.
Ironically, last year was one of the wettest we have had in a long time, and three out of the previous four years, we had considerable snowpacks in the Sierras, and our rivers have been flowing at record levels. The California State Water Project (SWP) has historically provided the Los Angeles area with 70 percent of water streaming from the Sierra watershed to the Tuolumne River and the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta region and through a network of aqueducts, pumping stations, and power plants.
Unfortunately, innovation-ignorant ‘environmental’ lobbyists persuaded our State and local leaders to redirect much of this precious water away from the aqueducts to flow out to the open sea, leaving Angelinos’s reserves at record lows. Our State leaders further blocked necessary forest and vegetation initiatives to clean out dead wood and bush that, when combined with a single match and the Santa Ana winds, can create acres of destruction.
As Northern Californians, we would note that 70% of our precious water is piped down Southern California to support, in part, track home and shopping mall overdevelopment into urban and expansive desert areas without the natural resources to absorb this runaway expansion. This water issue has long been a pressing environmental debate in the State that must also be addressed.
"I was evacuated three times from my house out of fear of wildfires. After the last one, two houses in front of my house burnt to the ground— It was f**king scary. At the time, a firefighter told me, 'One day, it's just going to be the right wind and a fire's gonna start in the right place, and it's going to burn through LA all the way to the ocean, and there's not a f**king thing we can do about it.'
Click on the links below to explore the innovations cited in more depth and learn about the companies currently providing these solutions.
Reservoir Optimization with AI—Applying AI to reservoir management can improve water storage and distribution, predict water needs, optimize release schedules, and ensure adequate supplies for both regular use and emergency firefighting.
Solar-Over-Canal Projects—Installing solar panels over canals can reduce evaporation, generate renewable energy, and improve water quality, potentially saving over 60 billion gallons annually.
Smart Water Management Systems—Implementing AI-driven water management systems can optimize water distribution during firefighting efforts and analyze real-time data to ensure adequate water pressure and supply to critical areas.
Water Recycling and Reuse Systems—By implementing advanced water recycling technologies in urban areas to conserve water resources and ensure a more stable water supply for both regular and firefighting use.
Solar-Powered Water Desalination—Implementing wave-powered or solar-powered desalination systems along the coast can provide an additional freshwater source for firefighting and help maintain water supplies even during drought conditions.
Atmospheric Water Generation—Solar-energy atmospheric water generators in fire-prone areas can be deployed to create localized water sources that can also supplement traditional water supplies during emergencies.
Innovative Firefighting Materials—Developing new fire-resistant materials and coatings using nanotechnology can help protect buildings and infrastructure, reduce the spread of fires, and minimize property damage.
Our entrepreneurial nature in global Silicon Valley is to see opportunity where there is pain. Total damages and economic loss due to the wildfires are estimated to be as high as $275 billion, making it the costliest natural disaster in US history—twice the damage in real dollars of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 in New Orleans. The companies and innovations outlined above are just the notes on the back of a napkin—a starting point for the possibilities.
We dedicate this song to Governor Gavin Newsom. Your No Good, by Linda Ronstadt, one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time (and GF of former Gov. Jerry Brown when TP was rocking with The Moonbeam). Epic!
Combating wildfire misinformation?
As a former Democratic party activist, with a stint as the student campaign manager for another California governor, Jerry Brown, the current party is unrecognizable. Gavin Newsom is like a spoiled kid who took over the family business even though he is totally over his head and has the imagination and creativity of a gnat. His rise in politics is the result of promising to always repeat Boss Lady Nancy Pelosi's talking points so he can access her powerful network of Super Donors.
Governor Moonbeam and yours truly contemplating a better universe.
While Governor, at least Jerry Brown read books and understood the importance and availability of storing clean water for farmers and emergencies. He also had a passion for implementing new innovation and even flirted with starting a State Space Program—earning his nickname 'Governor Moonbeam.' Jerry Brown was also fiscally responsible, advocated a balanced budget Amendment, and maintained a vibrant and cheap public education system—UC tuition was $245 a quarter! In his second time around in 2018, Governor Brown also allocated $1 billion over five years for fire prevention measures, including forest management.
In the midst of the wildfires, Boy Dumber Gavin has responded by asking Californians to donate to his Political Action Committee to help 'combat wildfire misinformation.' Translated, our hapless Governor seeks propaganda money to thwart the reality of his gross incompetence. People who lost their homes (and largely voted for him) want to know: What happened? Why did it happen? Is it going to happen again? Remarkably, Gavin has not answered any of these questions—so as our second dedication to our clueless Governor enjoy the sick Hall & Oats tune below—S(he) 's Gone.
—Tony Perkins, Editor
We need to return to the practices of Governor Jerry 'Moonbeam' Brown's original tenure by flushing out the hardwood and debris and piping in fresh, clean water. Our State leaders of the last 25 years have ignited a wildfire of mistrust in government, and like the LA fires, it has to be distinguished. The first step is campaign finance reform, with a limit of a $100 (tax-deductible) donation per candidate per registered voter, and stamp out the Super Donor money machine that manufactures progressively stupider candidates.
Then, we can seek out imaginative, competent, politically unencumbered leaders with disaster prevention plans that include deploying state-of-the-art AI, blockchain, drones, water, and Greentech innovation and show the world how to manage a modern, efficient, and environmentally-minded State. We have the natural and intellectual resources and the entrepreneurial spirit to do this—it's California's destiny to claim.
Wokeism vesrsus Wahhabism
Paypal and Palantir cofounder Peter Thiel provocatively likens California to Saudi Arabia, suggesting that both regions have dominant ideologies— ‘Wokeism’ in California and Wahhabism in Saudi Arabia. Mr. Thiel argues that while these dominant ideological systems are not universally embraced by their citizens, they significantly influence the culture, politics, and economy of their respective regions.
California's robust and efficient people deserve better
In 2023, the California economy grew at a robust 6.1% rate and contributed $3.9 trillion to the US GDP, representing the fifth-largest economy in the world for the seventh consecutive year. While California's GDP is comparable to that of Germany and Japan, we get the job done with half the people (40M) of Deutschland (80M) and a third of Nippon日本 (125M). The state added 14,700 jobs in September 2024 and has averaged 16,500 new jobs monthly this year, outpacing 2023's average of 12,900, despite an inflationary economy.
And yes, as the oil companies serve resource-rich countries, our multi-billion dollar tech industries serve as the economic backbone of California—Apple ($3.4T), Nvidia ($3.1T), Google ($2.1T), and Facebook ($1.3T). Combined, BigTech represents 19% of California's gross regional product, and when considering tech's 'ripple effects,' the sector's total contribution rises to nearly $1 trillion or 30% of the State's economy. The industry also supports 4.2 million jobs, or 20% of all jobs statewide.
In spite of all the hard work and huge output, California is ranked 48th among states for business friendliness, including the highest tax rates and the most costly, complex, and uncertain regulatory environment in the nation. It's about time we need a little break here.
Mr. Theil views Wokeism as a quasi-religious ideology that dogmatically preaches 'social justice, inclusivity, and political correctness' while emphatically resisting dissent or skepticism. Mr. Thiel observes that Wokeism prioritizes moralizing over practical discourse and fosters a culture where questioning specific issues—such as 'climate change' or social policies—is discouraged. To Mr. Thiel, Wokeism functions as a form of hyper-moralistic Christianity, emphasizing victimhood and virtue signaling while sidelining traditional Christian ideas like individual moral responsibility.
Let's see—prioritizing moralizing over practical discourse?🤔 Perhaps this bad habit had a bit to do with the level of unpreparedness and destruction Angelenos just endured. 'Wokeism' had its time of unfettered expression while most of us stood by quietly and politely, and we've seen the results. It's time to let individuals, families and their neighbors, and people who work hard for a living and know how to get shit done to take over the reins of society again. We have no doubt we will—even in California, however, begrudgingly it might be.

Zuck also recently shared with Joe Rogan his desire for Meta to emanate more 'masculine energy' and confront a corporate culture that has been 'neutered' in the past few years. It's a curious and bold statement for a public company CEO.
You can see in the same Pew study that Facebook competitors X (64% men) and Reddit (68% men) have a more masculine energy going. Although Reddit clearly gives off more incel male (involuntary celibate) user vibe than X—which one would guess is not what the new Zuck is aspiring for. 💪🏼😎
It also looks like Zuck's Herculean effort to grow his locks has meant ending the Meta's diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, as is becoming increasingly fashionable in Corporate America. The Bogeyman was also, of course, quick to sign an executive order titled ‘Ending Radical And Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing,’ which became effective immediately. DEI programs have caused a sharp uptick in very costly corporate litigation, and their practices have proven to violate federal anti-discrimination laws and create corporate culture havoc.
Many instances show that the groups favored under these programs are doing just fine. The 'people of color,' for example, can be encouraged by the economic success story of the US Latinos—who represent over 50% of the DEI category. Today, the US Latino community delivers way above its weight and has risen to an economic powerhouse in America.
¡Viva el poder económico latino de los Estados Unidos!
Aravind Srinivas, an Indian-born entrepreneur who CoFounder San Francisco-based Perplexity AI in 2022, now commands a company valued at $9 billion and employs over 100 US employees. 😎🙏🏼
DEI policies also frankly discriminate against those of Asian and Indian descent—arguably the highest-performing professionals in the technology industries. Why are these fine folks thrown into the bucket with the ‘whites?’ 🤔 Asian and Indian immigrants now start close to 40% of all successful startups in Silicon Valley, the majority of whom came to the States via H-1B visas. We need to keep the H1-B program rolling to enjoy their huge contribution to the growth of US jobs and wealth, and they need to be protected from misguided DEI policies as well.
The youth (18-39) vote surges for (TikTok) Trump 🤔
In 2024, 48% of young (18-39) Indian American men and 29% of young Indian American women voted for Trump—up measurably from 23% and 19% in 2020, respectively. Similarly, in 2024, 39% of young Chinese American voters favored Trump, up from 27% in 2020. Among young Latino voters, Trump's support also blew up to 39%, up from 27% in 2020. Young voters overall supported Trump over Ms. Harris by a 10-point margin—54% to 44%. Trump has 15M TikTok followers compared to Ms. Harris's 9.2M, but she wins with 150M TikTok 'likes' versus 105M 'likes' for the Boogeyman.
The Generation Equalitystreet mural, which calls for equal pay and ending violence against women and girls in London, was created by Alice Piscine, an Italian street artist, illustrator, and set designer.
Women now represent about 60% of high school valedictorians nationally.
As of 2023, approximately 66% of women versus 58% of men graduated from college, with women being 11 percentage points more likely to graduate from four-year colleges within four years.
Women now earn over 66% of master's degrees and 55% of doctoral degrees in the US.
At these current rates of progress, women will soon comfortably rule the world—and we shall all be better for it. We bet that the US will soon have a woman President, but given the feeble state of the Democratic party, she will most likely be a Republican.
The downside is US men have become less judicious and ambitious, and this is increasingly leaving many women with the 'double burden' of carrying both economic and domestic leadership responsibilities. As a result, women today are more likely to experience stress, burnout, and mental health challenges compared to men. For example, 51% of US working women reported feeling stressed 'a lot of the day,' compared to 39% of men. The dudes really need to step it up for the sake of everyone’s mental health, including their own.
The advice I gave my 18-year-old son—Be a man!
"Be put together when you show up. Listen to and support your gal's passions, and stop talking so much about yourself. Buy your gal some flowers or a present once in a while. Open the door and protect her always. Pay the tab, and don't take her back to the crib unless it's in good order and you have made your bed. There is nothing greater nor more beautiful than a good woman. The rewards for honoring her are bountiful and eternal!' —tp
In terms of LGBTQIA+? Well, we think that kind of status is the business of each individual and whomever they want to share it with personally, and it is irrelevant in the workplace. If you are offended by our opinion, you might take heart that the 2022 American Community Survey found that same-sex couple households had a higher median income than opposite-sex couple households.
"I've decided to raise the bar on performance management and move out low-performers faster. We typically manage out people who aren't meeting expectations over the course of a year, but now we're going to do more extensive performance-based cuts during this cycle."
If Zuck is challenging the idea that sexual identity and skin color are more relevant to the hiring process than a candidate’s expertise, competency, and work ethic—we emphatically agree. Hiring people for other reasons is unfair to the rest of the team members, who have to pick up the slack for any lack of competency. DEI programs also have the potential to create unspoken stigmas and ill feelings about people of less merit not earning their job roles.
Martin Luther King, Jr.’s often recited aspiration, ‘I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.’—can only be achieved when you start practicing it.
Affirmative action-based paid internships
We are strong supporters of technology companies offering affirmative-action-based paid internship programs for young people from the lower end of the socioeconomic spectrum and also favor this approach to private school and college admissions. One’s background and access to resources and opportunity do matter, and providing a boost for those not born into these fortunate circumstances is fair and one of the greatest gifts we can give to our communities. We all benefit from helping young people rise socioeconomically for countless reasons.
Created in San Paolo, Brazil, April 2019 by Alice Piscine.
Community monitoring vs. fact-checking partners (i.e. censorship)
Zuck also announced that his platforms will transition to a community-driven system modeled after X's Community Notes. On X, users can propose 'notes' on content, with a select group voting on the prominence that these should be given. Previously, Meta paid for fact-checking partners such as Reuters and AP to review content.
One of the great, not-so-unobvious Silicon Valley secrets was that Twitter 1.0 was a failing business due to its censorship and gas-lighting practices and was ultimately forced to sell out to Elon Musk. Twitter's 2013 IPO stock price was $45.10, and it was down 13% almost 10 years later to $39.3 on April 1, 2022, the last trading day before Elon Musk announced his 9% stake in Twitter.
The day the Twitter sale papers were signed, 60% of the Twitter members identified as Democrats or leaned toward the Democratic Party, with only 36% as Republicans. Once in charge, Elon cut the Twitter staff by 90%, reinstated banned accounts, moved to the ‘community’ content moderation model, released the Twitter files, made the algorithm that ranks tweets in the content feed open-source, and pledged to combat spambots and ‘authenticate all real humans’ on the platform.
'We laid off 90 percent. Turns out you don't need all that many people to run Twitter, which is really just one big group chat. If you're not trying to run some kind of glorified activist organization, and you're not caring that much about censoring your political opponents, you can really let go of a lot of people.' —Elon Musk.
The math now proves that X has become a supreme example of how free speech and the free market can result in happy customers and successful businesses. Zuck is wise to follow X’s example, and we bet this move will help Facebook earn back its member's trust and translate into a stronger and more sustainable future.
Stalin called Lavrentiy Beria ‘our Heinrich Himmler,’ referring to one of the Holocaust’s main architects.
‘Show me the man, and I'll find you the crime.’
The notorious quote above is attributed to Lavrentiy Beria, the head of Joseph Stalin's secret police in the Soviet Union. This saying encapsulates the dangerous approach to justice practiced by the Democratic elites and funded by their Super Donors such as the notorious George Soros, since 2016. Ironically, Zuck was all on board with the Donkeys his whole career, even ponying up $400 million in ‘Zuckerbucks’ to fund voter registration in counties disproportionately benefiting the cognitively diminished Joe Biden's campaign to defeat the Boogeyman in 2020. But after the election, the Biden administration ultimately turned on Zuck and Meta during the COVID epidemic with the same Politburo-style tactics they applied to Trump, Robert Kenenedy, Jr., Tulsi Gabbard, and others who refused to do what they commanded.
Listen to Zuck describe this chilling tale in his recent sit-down with Joe Rogan.
During the first Trump administration
Joe Rogan: How has your recent content moderation plan been received?
Zuck: It probably depends on who you ask (both laugh). But I've been working on this for a long time—it's been a long journey—and you got to do what you think is right. You only start a social media company if you believe in giving people a voice, right? It goes back to our original mission to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected.
Joe: When did the path towards Meta's censorship start? We only found out about it when Elon bought Twitter, and they published the Twitter files.
Zuck: It was really in the last 10 years, starting in 2016 with the election of President Trump, which coincided with Brexit in the EU. That is when people began pushing us for censorship. The second push came in 2020 with COVID. It was because of those two events that, for the first time, we faced massive institutional pressure to censor content on ideological grounds, and we lost the trust of our members.
Joe: Back in 2016, was the censorship push made under the guise of the whole Russian collusion hoax?
Zuck: Looking back on 2016, I gave too much deference to folks in the media who were basically saying there's no way that Trump could have been elected except for the misinformation out there, which started with the Russian collusion and then morphed into Hunter's laptop, and all sorts of things. And I took this all in good faith. But from the very beginning, I was worried about becoming this sort of decider of what is true in the world—for the billions of people who use our services. That's crazy, right?
Joe reacts to the Biden-led COVID censorship pressure going on at Meta.
During the outbreak of COVID
Zuck: People in the Biden administration pushed us super hard to take things about COVID down that were honestly true—like that vaccinations might have side effects. I was like, 'We are clearly not going to do that.'
Joe: That's crazy because you are moderating people at scale. How many people use Facebook on a daily basis?
Zuck: 3.2 billion people use one of our services a day—on a monthly basis, we probably reach half the earth. And basically, people from the Biden administration would call up our people and scream at them and curse—it's all documented and published in the public domain, thanks to Jim Jordon's congressional investigation. We finally told them, 'No, we are not going to take down things that are true, that are humorous or satire—that's ridiculous.' So all of a sudden, theyflipped the switch, and Biden makes a public statement at some point basically saying these guys [the Facebook team] 'are killing people!'
Joe:😳
Zuck: Yeah, then like all these different agencies and branches of government basically just like started investigating us and coming after our company, and it was brutal—it was really brutal.
Joe: Wow! Massive over-stepping. First of all, you weren't killing people. They were suppressing stuff that is good for you and preventative, regardless of whether you believe in vaccines or not. And that's just crazy! It's like a 1984 instruction manual.
Zuck:Yeah, so that's the journey I have been on, starting out with very pro-free speech and free expression. Then these two episodes happened: the 2016 Trump election and then COVID, where, in retrospect, I deferred too much to media and government pressure. Since then, trust in media has fallen off the cliff because the stuff they write is either just not true or written from a slant. And then there was the government's version of all this during COVID, and since then, not only have the incumbents in the US been voted out of office, but incumbents all over the globe have as well, just in the last year. So people think of our change [to Community fact-checking] as a political move because of the election, but I have been thinking about it for a long time. After having these huge institutions try to pressure us, I think it is the right place for us to go forward.
Joe: What was it like when the Biden Administration was attacking you? What were they saying was your offense?
Zuck:Well, there is a specific thing that an agency might be looking into, and then there's the underlying political motivation behind why the people running things hate you—and that's two different things. I mean, we had agencies coming after us that had nothing to do with social media—like the financial organization that Elizabeth Warren created…
Joe: Oh, great!
Zuck: It's like, we are not a bank! What does Meta have to do with this? I mean, I have never been in government, so I don't know if it was like a directive or a quiet consensus, but it was like, we don't like these guys, so we are going to do whatever we can to punish them. And it is very tough to be on the other end of all that.
Joe: What's it like?
Zuck: Well, it's not good (both laugh). But I believe the government and media pressure was wrong, and I regret that we were not more outspoken about it. We're ready to push back if something like this happens again.
Zuck goes on to say that, at least, like Trump's legal persecution over the last 10 years, our judiciary system still works, and, also like the Boogeyman, Facebook has won more battles with the US government in court than it has lost. We agree with Zuck that our government should defend our companies rather than be the ‘tip of the spear attacking our companies.’ The EU, for example, has fined US tech companies an estimated $36 billion to $42 billion over the last 20 years.
‘Politico did that terrible, ill-fated headline: 51 intelligence agents, or former intelligence agents, say that the Hunter Biden laptop was disinformation. Turns out that story was closer to disinformation because the Hunter Biden laptop appeared to be true. I was covering Biden at the time, and the message from on high at Politico—Don’t write about the laptop, don’t talk about the laptop, don’t tweet about the laptop. But then Facebook also pulled all stories down about the Hunter Biden laptop, and Twitter initially did the same.’
We somehow think of the TechBro billionaires as so powerful they can stand up to any outside agency assault. When you listen to the Zuck/Rogan conversation, you get a real sense of how scary and ‘brutal’ it was for Zuck when Big Brother showed up at his shop to terrorize him into submission. Ultimately, Zuck’s story, Marc Cuputo’s remarks above, and the Twitter Files expose a complex system of information control involving government agencies, ‘top schools,’ and the corporate media and entertainment world that raise serious concerns about their attempts to control free speech and democratic discourse in our age.
When the history books are written, the greatest legacy of the 2024 election will be that it marked the end of the unfettered power of the elites, the return of power to the people through citizen journalism, and the birth of community-moderated social networks free from political censorship and abuse.
Well, half of our prediction came true—Surprise! Surprise!
“We still think Trump will pardon Great Grandpa Joe. After all, even the Bogeyman has the heart not to leave Joe hanging on his own, after he will invariably add his brother James and the rest of his family to his flurry of eyebrow-raising pardons.’ CWR, 12/25/24 issue.
In his final hours as President, Great Grandpa Biden issued a series of preemptive pardons for several family members, breaking yet another campaign promise. Biden also orchestrated his family pardons at the very last moment, while Trump was being sworn in, so the incoming President couldn't mention this hypocritical act in his inaugural speech. For our part, we predicted it was all coming, and we still stand by our bet that Trump will pardon the Big Guy.
However, in an interview with Sean Hannity yesterday, you can feel the Boogeyman still seething from what the Biden DOJ orchestrated over the last 4 years to keep him from running.
'This guy [Joe Biden] went around giving everybody pardons. And you know, the funny thing, maybe the sad thing, is he didn't give himself a pardon. And if you look at it, it all had to do with him. He has bad advisors. I did it the hard way. I went through four years of hell. I spent millions of dollars on legal fees, and I won. I think we'll let Congress decide what to do. It's really hard to say Biden shouldn't have to go through what happened to me.'
We have empathy for the Bogeyman's feelings. As Zuck says, facing the Biden Gestapo is 'brutal,' even for a billionaire. Trump should still pardon the old man. Just like Special Counsel Robert Hur's report on President Biden's handling of classified documents concluded almost a year ago, 'The jury will see President Biden as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.' 😳 Mr. President, Joe Biden's not-so-pretty legacy has been enshrined, including the first president to give his family blanket pardons—let the old boy fade into the sunset. Surprise the world, turn the other cheek, and show revenge is not part of your vision of a new 'Golden Age for America.'
The TechBro backlash continues…
We can’t take the Techbros anywhere…especially Elon.
